Why You Shouldn't Remove a Wart on Your Own

Why You Shouldn't Remove a Wart on Your Own

Warts are among the most common skin conditions worldwide, affecting 10% of women and men and up to 20% of children. They’re so common that they may not seem like a big deal, which you think gives you leave to take care of them yourselves.

We strongly encourage you to resist the urge.

Dr. Divina Averilla and our team at Love Your Body Medical Spa in Las Vegas, Nevada, have seen firsthand what happens when our patients take matters into their own hands and perform bathroom surgery on their warts, and we’re highlighting the unfortunate results.

Here’s what can happen if you attempt to remove your wart yourself (and what you should do instead).

You could spread the infection

Warts are infected with the human papillomavirus (HPV) variant that causes them, making them incredibly contagious. Touching your wart and then touching another part of your body (or someone else’s) can spread the virus and cause new warts to crop up.

Instead of picking at your wart, we recommend covering it up as soon as you notice it to reduce the risk of spreading it.

You could hurt yourself

Warts are often deeply embedded in the skin, and no amount of preparation or precaution equips you to handle their removal safely.

You might not cut or shave off enough of the wart to eradicate it completely, or you might dig in too deeply, severely damaging your skin and causing scarring.

You could develop an infection

Improper removal techniques often create a wound, which is an open door for bacteria, viruses, and other harmful substances. The tools themselves are likely contaminated.

You might not be dealing with a wart

What you think is a wart may not be a wart at all. This is especially true if you haven’t had warts before and/or what you’re seeing is a new growth. Many skin problems resemble each other, so get a professional’s opinion before you start digging into your skin.

What you should do instead

Plenty of ideas and hacks out there “guarantee” fast and safe wart removal, but no method is safe if it’s done outside a professional’s supervision.

That’s where Dr. Averilla comes in.

In addition to our wide range of aesthetic services, we offer wart (and skin tag and mole) removal. We use radiofrequency (RF) technology in our wart removal service. RF is the most advanced, proven, and safe method to completely remove your wart and prevent further damage.

During treatment, Dr. Averilla places an RF device against your wart. When the device turns on, RF waves pass through your skin, breaking down tissue and removing the wart layer by layer.

Depending on the size and location of your wart, we select from a few different devices, such as fine needle electrodes, wire loop electrodes, and scalpel blades attached to electrodes.

Why our patients love our wart removal services

Seeing us for wart removal instead of attempting it alone has many benefits, with your safety chief among them. Our methods carry no risk of bleeding, infection, or damage and are incredibly fast. You’re also guaranteed that your wart will be gone for good with no scalpels required and virtually no scarring.

The choice is simple: Remove your wart on your own and risk severe damage and infection, or see our expert for fast, easy, and safe treatment.
