How PRP Therapy Can Kickstart Hair Growth

If you’ve heard about platelet-rich plasma (PRP) before, you likely know it as a revolutionary sports medicine and pain management therapy, but that’s not all it does.

PRP is a versatile treatment with cosmetic and physical health benefits. In recent years, it has emerged to overhaul the hair loss industry.

Gone are the days of rubbing on topicals and hoping for the best. Now, you can harness the power of your body’s healing factors to naturally stimulate hair growth.

Dr. Divina Averilla and our team at Love Your Body Medical Spa in Las Vegas, Nevada, are here with all of the details.

Let’s talk about hair loss

Hair loss is far from a medical emergency, but for the 50 million men and 30 million women who are living with male- or female-pattern baldness, hair loss is undoubtedly a mental and emotional health crisis. That goes for folks who are dealing with hair thinning as well.

Hair loss and thinning can have various causes, from genetics and hormonal changes to fungal infections and damaging hairstyles.

Whatever is leaving you losing your locks, you should know all of your options, especially PRP for hair loss.

First things first

To understand how PRP restores your hair, you first need to know how we create PRP.

Making PRP is simple. All we need is a sample of your blood. We take the sample in our office and process it in a centrifuge to separate PRP from the rest of your blood (namely, the red and white blood cells).

Then, we prepare PRP to inject it back into your scalp in small, strategic locations.

The entire process takes about an hour, and despite a bit of pressure at the injection site, you shouldn’t experience any pain.

Because it’s so minimally invasive, you can also return to your daily routine right after treatment — no downtime required.

Bonus: PRP carries minimal risk for side effects because it's derived from your own blood.

The power of PRP

PRP works on a few levels to stimulate hair growth. Researchers first discovered its power to fight hair loss when they noticed that injections prolonged the growing phase of the hair cycle.

PRP also effectively repairs blood vessels, promotes cell growth, encourages healing, and stimulates collagen production.

Over time, your body responds to the PRP by regrowing hair and restoring your hairline. For the best results, we usually recommend a series of treatments spaced a few months apart.

What are you waiting for?

PRP isn’t just for elite athletes who have bum shoulders. It's for everyone, including those who are frustrated with thinning or shedding hair.
